If you have planned to spend this vacation at Himachal Pradesh, kindly ponder at the points below to have a joyous and wholesome experience:
  • The best time to visit the state is between April and October. It is recommended to check on general road conditions and confirm
    if the high passes are open to traffic prior to the commencement of your trip.
  • If you are driving on your own, it is suggested that you opt for a sturdy vehicle like a Jeep or Gypsy. It is also advisable to carry essential spare parts and extra fuel.
  • If the need arises, there are a lot of petrol pumps en route at Shimla, Theog, Narkanda, Rampur, Powari, Recong Peo, Kaza, Keylong, Manali and Sarchu.
  • If the journey to your selected destination involves crossing the high passes, good health is essential.
  • You must carry your prescription medicines and sun-screen lotion along.
  • Drink only boiled water or bottled mineral water.
  • Foreign Tourists who have already traveled across Africa or Papua/ New Guinea are required to have a yellow fever inoculation certificate six days prior to arriving in India. Those without it may be quarantined for up to six days.
  • Light cotton or woolen clothing is suitable to be worn during the summer months as the temperature is mild. Whereas it is recommended to carry heavy woolen clothes during winter as the temperature can suddenly drop below the freezing point at times.
  • It is mandatory for the foreigners to inform the Sadar Police Station or the closest Foreigners' Regional Registration Office, if they wish to overstay.
  • State hospitals can be found at Recong Peo, Keylong and Kaza, while dispensaries are located in all the other places.
  • It is advisable to carry information and guide maps along that can be obtained from the Himachal Tourism Office.
  • Tourists must necessarily opt for guest houses / hotels registered with the Department of Tourism in India.
  • Customs and traditions must be strictly followed while visiting religious sites.
If you are going on a trek, picnic or are visiting wild life sanctuaries, kindly ensure that
  • Any non-bio-degradable litter like plastic bottles and cans is not left behind. You can bury this litter
  • Only dry fallen twigs are used as firewood.
  • Huge bonfires do not occur.
  • Clothes are not washed in the water bodies and soap is not rinsed to these while taking a bath.
  • Disturbing noises and loud music are not made as these disturb the wildlife.
  • Vehicles are used to the bare minimum of their requirement.
  • Flora and fauna are not damaged in any way.
