One of the most beautiful districts of Himachal Pradesh is Kinnaur.
This district is attractive for its lush green valleys, orchards, vineyards,
snow capped peaks and cold desert mountains. This region is 250 kms from
Shimla connected by the National Highway No. 22.
The climate of this region is most suited for growing fruits. Apart from
chilgozas (pine nut), Kinnaur also produces yummy apples, almonds, peaches
and apricots in the country. This region is also famous for its local wine
named Anguri. Alpine species like Jupiter, Pine, Fir, Cypress and
Rhododendron can be found in Kinnaur, along with native trees such as Oak,
Chestnut, Maple, Birch, Alder and Magnolia.
Kinnaur is blessed with many rivers such as the Sutlej, which divides the
district in almost two parts. The Spiti River is the second most important
river of the Region.
One of the most visited temples in Kinnaur is Recong Peo, which is famous
for its gompa, where His Holiness the Dalai Lama accomplished a 'Kalchakra'
ceremony in 1992.
Located at an altitude of 1,899 meters, Karchham is famous tourist spot for
its picturesque view. It is a confluence point of the Satluj and Baspa
rivers.
Access to Kinnaur
Kinnaur is easily accessible by rail, road and air network. The nearest
airport is Jubbarhati which is 244 kms from Kinnaur. From here, regular
flights are available to and from major cities of the region.
Kinnaur also can be reached by rail. The nearest railway station is at
Shimla which is 250 kms from Kinnaur. From here, buses and taxis are
available to reach Kinnaur.
Maximum part of the state is covered by road; kinnaur is also reachable by
it. Major cities of the state are well connected by regular buses and taxis.
This hill station is connected by National Highway 22.
