Located at 6500 ft. above sea level in the foothills of Dhauladhar
Ranges, Khajjiar is also known as "Mini Switzerland of Himachal Pradesh".
Tiny hill station of Chamba district, Khajjiar is surrounded by dense
forests and lush green meadows. Snow capped peaks of the Himalayan region
can be viewed at a distance.
One of the popular tourist attractions at Khajjiar, Khajinag Temple was
built in 12th century. It is a small shrine dedicated to local Devi or the
goddess, it is also known as Golden Devi Temple.
Located at is an altitude of 1900 meters, The Khajjiar Lake is surrounded
by lush green forests. It contains water all the seasons and is constant fed
from the melting snow on the mountains
Another point of tourist attraction near Khajjiar, Kalatop Khajjiar
sanctuary is popular for its rare animals such as Black Bear, Serow and
Pheasants. Deodar and Fir forest covers the sanctuary.
Access to Khajjiar
Khajjiar is well connected through rail, road and air network. The nearest
airport is Gaggal airport, Kangra which is at 134 kms. This airport has
regular flights from major cities of the state.
Rail is another option to reach Khajjiar. This place is also reachable by
broad gauge railway station is at Pathankot in Punjab which is at 142 kms.
Smooth road is available to reach Khajjiar. Buses and taxis can be availed
from Chamba (1½ hour) and Dalhousie (1½ hour) to reach at this
picnic spot of Himachal Pradesh.
