Education in Himachal

Adjudged as number one amongst the Indian states in the field of education by a national wide survey conducted by a prestigious magazine; the state has to its credit a wide expansion and strengthening of educational network. This expansion plan has been coupled with bold initiatives like educational institutions within a radius of one kilometer, free education to girls and incentives to children belonging to SC/ST/OBC and IRDP families that have indeed facilitated Himachal to be number one in the field of education in the country.

Various private universities have been opened up in the state for offering multiple arenas of higher education to the youth of the state. Well recognized as a model of inclusive development in the education sector, the state no doubt is extremely proud of having a 100% enrolment count at both Primary and Middle levels. And very satisfactorily, these enrolments are free of all gender biases owing to the countless measures taken by the state government in the past for educating the girl child.

Universalizing of the elementary education has also been done in the state by the establishment of a separate Directorate of Elementary Education. These human capital policies have thus brought about a 100% literacy rate among the youth of the State. A considerable sum of about Rs. 55 crores is being spent during each financial year for completion of ongoing works of newly opened college buildings in the State. Vocational training courses are also being started in the colleges to make them finance their own educational infrastructure.
